»»Overall Appearance:
Taran isn't your stereotypical pretty boy, but he shares many of the hallmarks of that particular kind of person. For starters, compared to many natives of Bosena, he's very tall. He comes in at about six feet, generally towering over others. He uses his height to his advantage, lording over people and making them feel vaguely uncomfortable. In addition to his rather impressive height, Taran also appears very slender. He is not incredibly thin, to be honest - he's about average for his height, maybe a little below. Maybe it's the way he carries himself, like a tall reed in a gentle breeze. It could also be the way he tailors his clothing to fit him like a glove. Whatever it is, Taran gives the illusion of having supermodel-esque proportions.
Taran also possesses a lovely face. His dark eyes and pale skin are accentuated by the wire-rimmed glasses he has to wear to see, and his skin is not marked by any kind of scars. However, on occasion, the flickering evil Taran hides from the rest of the world comes straight through in his facial features, more so than in his bodily ones. His eyes can snap cold in an instant, and his thin lips easily slide into demented scowls on occasion. Usually, Taran keeps his face blank for this reason - it's too easy to look evil sometimes.
As far as clothing goes, Taran dresses simply and sharply - he's a big fan of button-downs and ties paired with neutral slacks. If he needs to look even sharper, he'll wear a suit jacket over those clothes. He breeds Pokemon in similar clothing, usually pairing it with a blue apron he's had since his youth. He is not one for elaborate clothing at all, and very few of his clothes are in any non-neutral or non-pastel color. Taran believes that bold colors scare away Pokemon, something he is not interested in doing.
»»Likes:
Taran is the kind of person who presents himself as pleasant in front of people, and stifles his true personality until he can no longer hide it. To most of the world in Bosena, he is the kind of upstanding young gentleman that the Pergure Organization needs as a spokesman and employee. He is polite, courteous, helpful, and treats Pokemon incredibly well. As a breeder for Pergure, he is well-known for how much he cares for the Pokemon he breeds, and how friendly and skilled the Pokemon that hatch from his eggs are. For all intents and purposes, Taran Rouge of the Pergure Organization is a fine, upstanding gentleman with a pretty face.
Except he really isn't. Taran is an incredibly introspective, bitter man. Losing his parents early in life gave him the sort of determination and drive he needed to become the expert breeder he is today, but it also gave him a severely warped sense of duty. He professes to love the Pokemon he breeds, but does not seem to grasp that his breeding practices - which involve carefully selecting Pokemon based on move type, ability, compatability likelihood, and battle statistics - are a kind of abuse in and of themselves. Basically, Taran is pioneering Pokemon eugenics, and doesn't seem to understand that creating super-powered Pokemon for an organization he KNOWS is trying to completely destroy the economy of Bosena and the infrastructure of its Pokemon League and Ranger systems is a terrible idea. Taran is definitely ignorant to his own failings as a Pokemon Breeder, and believes that, because he treats the Pokemon he breeds with care and love and does not force them to breed if they do not want to, he is doing right by them.
On a personal level, Taran is definitely a man who needs solitude. He is used to growing up alone, and finds it hard to relate to other people because of this. He can relate better to groups of Pokemon than to other human beings; he is needlessly polite to cover up his own social failings. Taran is definitely not a romantic person, and doesn't hide his sexuality as much as he acts like he's completely asexual. Friendship is hard for him to come by as well, unless it's a friendship with a Pokemon. He does respect certain other members of Team Pergure, but is definitely not known for being the most charming, or open, or eloquent of the Pergure members.
Taran is not prone to showing a lot of emotion. If he's happy, he'll lightly smile; sadness barely registers on his face at all. It does take an incredible amount of effort to get him angry, which is probably for the best. His anger is explosive, violent, and overwhelming, and anyone in his way should get out of it as fast as they can. Most of the time, however, Taran, in public, will be amusingly blank, the kind of empty, smiling person that's impossible to read.
In his private moments, Taran does a lot of thinking. He lives in his own head, and has an incredibly sharp mind because of it. He's a planner, something that definitely comes into play when he breeds. Life sometimes bothers him with its messiness, but he is not to the point where, if things don't go according to plan, he has a meltdown. He just prefers things to be neat and orderly, if at all possible. People who seem like they have no direction in life bother him for this reason.
Taran learned a long time ago that vanity and pride in one's appearance is a useless thing to have. Though he does present himself well, it's not because he wants to look good. It's because he feels that Pergure should present itself well. He hates people with excessive vanity, or who obviously spend a lot of hours on their appearance or clothing. Growing up fairly poor, Taran also has a disdain for obviously ostentatious things. Everything he wears, and everything he makes for the Pokemon he breeds, have their purpose.
Taran can be a bit of a mood-killer. You probably don't want him at your party, nor would you rely on him for a good time. He's a workhorse, and rarely has time for anything as frivolous as play. He views Coordinating as "play" and kind of useless.

»»History:
Taran Rouge was born to Saiyo and Amelia Rouge of Sodalite Town, two prominent members of society there. Saiyo had made a serious bid to become a Pokemon League Champion in his youth in Kanto before traveling to the new world of Bosena in order to create goodwill between the two regions. Amelia was a local girl in Sodalite who was in training to take over her parents' Pokemon Beauty Parlor. The two fell in love instantly, and were soon married with a child on the way. Taran had a lot of his parents' physical traits, like his mother's dark hair and fair complexion, his father's brown eyes and height.
As a young child, Taran wanted for nothing. His parents, both being fairly financially secure, provided for their child well. He grew up also surrounded by Pokemon at the Beauty Parlor, meeting many interesting people who came to visit the legendary Saiyo, and living a fairly good life. This lasted until Taran was about three years old.
At age three, his mother and father took a trip to Kanto to visit Saiyo's family, leaving Taran behind with Amelia's mother. On that trip, disaster struck, and the boat that took Saiyo and Amelia to Kanto sank on its way back to Bosena. Taran was left orphaned at a very early age, and it was decided that, instead of being given to Saiyo's family in Kanto, Amelia's mother and father would care for him. While they were both very caring, and did the best they could with a terrible situation, they couldn't get little Taran to come out of his shell after his parents' death. A lot of the people who came to visit before suddenly stopped appearing. The only time Taran seemed to be happy was when he played with the Pokemon at the Beauty Parlor, which was being run by Amelia's father once again. He became an incredibly introverted teenager, interacting only with people when he had to as the clerk of the Beauty Parlor. He'd developed into a child just as beautiful as his picturesque parents, but showed little to no interest in any of his peers. He didn't even seem interested in becoming a Pokemon Trainer, Coordinator, or Ranger. Taran was known for having a fairly strong bond with Pokemon, not for his strong bond with anyone else.
When Taran was sixteen, one customer came in to the Beauty Parlor that completely changed Taran's trajectory in life. Before, he'd been content to keep working at the Beauty Parlor his whole life. This woman was traveling into town to deliver an egg to the Mayor. She introduced herself to Taran as Lissette Lamarche of Goldenrod Town in Johto, a Pokemon Breeder of great renown. Taran and Lissette, who was a good ten years older than him, became fast friends, oddly. Lissette could tell in their first meeting that Taran had the skills to be a good Pokemon Breeder, and took him under her wing, giving him a crash course in breeding. Her crash course turned into a stint where she took Taran back to Goldenrod in order to teach him more of her Breeding ways.
Taran was in Goldenrod for two years, during which time he realized Lissette was a bit... eccentric would be the nice word. Crazy was more like it. She got great results from her breeding, but she was wildly unstable. Taran found out about a year into his apprenticeship that she was beholden to Team Rocket, and she supplied Pokemon that she bred to them. The stress was beginning to eat away at her. Though she knew a lot, Taran cut his apprenticeship off after two years, when he saw Lissette hit a Pokemon. He still regrets not reporting her abuse to someone.
Returning to Sodalite was a disorienting experience. For starters, the Beauty Salon was suddenly home to an absolutely brilliant protege of Pokemon Beautician-ry, Amber Yu, a plain girl with an eye for incredible beauty. Taran, now eighteen, was being pressured into dating her to keep the Beauty Parlor in a married couple's hands. Taran had been aware for quite some time that he wasn't straight - he was never interested in dating any of his peers because they were either bruiser Pokemon trainers, fishermen, or unbelievably annoying - but the pressure coming from his grandparents began to set him on edge. He bought his own breeding farm to have somewhere to escape to, and his services soon became in-demand by a few people and groups.
One of these groups was the Pergure Organization, who ran a series of hospitals, charitable homes, Pokemon rehabilitation centers, and other places of good repute. There was some interest on Pergure's part to breed Pokemon that were being caught into extinction, and Taran found their interest in him good enough. At age twenty, he became a part of Team Pergure, becoming one of their Breeders.
After a couple of years, the higher-ups felt Taran was smart enough to handle the news that Pergure had been subtly manipulating public perception of certain institutions of Bosena in order to gain more power. Taran, who had a hard time empathizing with people being forced out of what he deemed idiotic work anyways - did there really need to be more gung-ho Rangers? - had no real problem with this news. As far as he was concerned, there couldn't be much wrong with a charitable organization who dedicated itself to caring for Pokemon trying to overturn institutions that naturally went against caring for them. Taran bought the party line so much that when Pergure asked him to begin breeding a bigger variety of Pokemon, he didn't question it. At age twenty-two, Taran began his experiments with breeding eugenics, figuring out the best ways to breed Pokemon so that they would have optimal move sets, good attitudes, and pretty coats.
Taran still lives in Sodalite Town, but has mostly severed ties with the Beauty Parlor, to the sadness of his grandparents and the indignation of Amber, who is now being groomed to take over the store in the Wakamoto's old age. Taran is a very well-known breeder in the region now that he has been featured in commercials promoting Pergure Organization products and services. He even designs some Pergure products: the jeweled necklaces he makes for Pokemon that designate their type and their parents are huge special order hits, as they make it easier for hospitals to track potential lineage illnesses, trainers to locate lost Pokemon, and other useful uses.
