Splashing War! (April)

The Azurill wiggled excitedly in Odette's arms. The girl giggled. This was Amber's first time to the beach, so it was only natural for her to be excited. When Odette had shown the Pokemon the pink one-piece that she had bought, she had looked at her with curiosity. "We're going to the beach!" the girl had exclaimed and Amber's mood immediately changed. She wasn't sure whether or not the creature understood exactly what a beach was, but it was a new place so it was only natural to be excited.

When Amber saw the water, she struggled to get out of her trainer's grasp. "Oh, no you don't," Odette told her and playfully held her tighter. "Wait till we get a little closer, then I'll let you go." She doubted she would be able to keep up with the child if she let her loose now.

Odette knelt a few feet away from the water and let the Azurill go. As she had expected, Amber raced towards the water and bounced once on the ball at the end of her tail to dive in. The girl smiled, stood, then walked a few paces to pull off the blue beach bag she had brought and lay down her flowery towel. She sat on it, gently hugging her knees to her chest as she watched her only Pokemon play.

She thought of contests. They had been practicing, without fail. Odette had the little Pokemon practice her singing and her moves every other day or so (because there is such a thing as over-training), but it didn't seem enough. The girl didn't seem quite ready yet. Odette felt something was lacking.

Then she felt cold water splash on her face. The blond narrowed her eyes as the culprit giggled and kicked its little blue feet. "Oh, you are so gonna get it," she threatened while grinning. She stood up and ran into the water, making a not-so-frightening battle cry. She splashed her Pokemon, who giggled and used Splash to splash her back. The girl shielded her face with her arms. The water was cool and it felt nice. She laughed, worries forgotten and a playful splashing battle began. It wouldn't be surprising if they ended up splashing others around them, absorbed in themselves as they were. They were having the time of their life, so something so trivial didn't seem to matter.

Her father had avoided her the entire time… with a sigh, and slipped on the gray and blue bikini she had brought along with her and slipped on a pink, bushy towel coat her mother had given to her. As much as she disliked the color pink, at least it was something to cover her up a bit from the sun’s rays. “Come on Elli, let’s get out there while the sun is still up!” Elli looked up from the book she was pretending to read as April picked up here tan beach bag, grabbing an extra Squirtle-print towel for Elli. She avoided the main entrance of the Pokemon center since it had been too crowded and headed out the back. She made her way down the Sandy hill with Elli until finally they made it to the bottom, where the beach sat. There weren’t too many people here, but the afternoon had just started, and there was still time for more people to show. She set her bags down in an open spot and looked down at Elli, a grin on her face. To see if her Pokemon remembered what they were supposed to do for the upcoming contest, she began moving in the sequence she had taught to her. Elli caught on moments later. “That’s right girl, Left right, step back, step forwards. That was good! Now let’s just hope we remember that when we actually have to do it!” She chuckled. Elli nodded and chased April down to the water. April splashed in and of course tripped up on something. She was quick to splash into the watery depths, but just as quick to pop back up. She breathed as Elli blinked. At least she knew how to swim. “Well, glad to see someone among all the stiffs having fun here today!” called a female voice. Odette turned and saw a cute girl with short black hair.

"Well, that's what we came here for!" she replied with cheer. This young lady could be a new friend! Odette liked friends. She took in the sight of the drenched older girl and laughed. "You got soaked faster than I did!" Seeing that her trainer had stopped attacked her with water, Amber's mischievous spirit took over as she saw her chance. The Azurill paddled slowly and quietly behind her and just as Odette turned back around to check on her... she gave a big splash straight to the girl's face!

Odette sputtered and spit in shock. She was now as wet as the young lady she was just talking to you. "You wanna play that way, huh?" she said menacingly. She spread her arms wide and high above her head. "Take this! Big Belly Flop Splash!" As she said the words, she pushed off the ground and threw her torso at the water, creating the just named "Big Belly Flop Splash". And, as the name suggested, it made a big splash that pushed the little Azurill away in a fit of giggles. Odette; however, was covered from head to toe in sea water. She pushed herself back to surface with her arms and her large, wavy mane of blond covered her face. "Roar! I'm a sea monster!" she declared, curling her fingers into claws and creeping towards her Pokemon. Amber laughed and paddled away.

The blond spit more sea water out of her mouth (the taste was bad) and used a hand to flip the locks of hair out of her face. She then spied the Elekid. "Is that Elekid yours?" she asked the brunette, seeing an opportunity lying in the electric Pokemon if it were so.

Elli had been splashing around in the water, trying to keep herself afloat. When she finally realized she couldn’t, she held onto her trainers wrist. “Yup, Elli here is mine. She’s much nicer than she looks too, believe me!” Elli gave a wave to the Azurill, letting the fellow baby form Pokemon that she was a friend, not a foe. April was happy at least someone on the beach was having some form of fun. Most people were just standing at the base of the water, watching the waves. Though, what kind of fun was that? “And I’m guessing that adorable little Azurill belongs to you?” April questioned, looking down with a friendly smile.Elli, finally feeling safe enough, splashed her way over to the Azurill to play with her, and April came so she was wading next to the girl. “I just decided to come down here because the weather just seemed that nice.” She noticed the glances from some of the beachgoers, most of them trained on Elli. “That figures. They probably think Elli is going to go ahead and shock this entire body of water! I wish people would realize she doesn’t even know how to attack with electricity yet.” April said with a slight frown. She then Turned back to Odette. “I just realized I never introduced myself. The lady nodded and Odette grinned. This was a perfect chance to get Amber to socialize! The baby had only been around Odette and her family so far and she hadn't had much experience with other Pokemon or people. “Yup, Elli here is mine. She’s much nicer than she looks too, believe me!” As if to prove her trainer's point, the Elekid gave a friendly wave to Amber, who stopped splashing about and looked at Elli curiously.

Odette giggled. "She seems pretty friendly." But what would her Azurill do? She watched with curiosity.

“And I’m guessing that adorable little Azurill belongs to you?”

The girl's heart gave a squeeze, as it always did when Amber's cuteness was mentioned, and her face lit up like a Neon sign. "Yep! That's Amber!" Amber saw, as Elli splashed towards her, that the Pokemon was having some trouble. The Azurill met her halfway, then turned around and wiggled the blue ball at the end of her tail. Odette glanced over and her eyes flashed. Smart girl, she thought. Amber was trying to tell the Elekid to grab onto her tail, since the ball at the end was basically a floaty and as long as Elli held onto it, it was unlikely she would sink. "Azurill!" Amber told her, which probably translated to 'grab on'.

“I just decided to come down here because the weather just seemed that nice.”

"Same here," Odette replied. The girl saw the brunette glance at the people sitting on the sand and she looked. It was kind of odd that they weren't playing. Wasn't that what a beach was for?

“That figures. They probably think Elli is going to go ahead and shock this entire body of water! I wish people would realize she doesn’t even know how to attack with electricity yet.” The lady frowned.

Odette laughed. "If she was as friendly as you say, I doubt she would, even if she did know!" From what the dark brunette said, she could assume that Elli was pretty young. It would be nice if Amber had a friend that was about her age.

“I just realized I never introduced myself. My name is April, nice to meet ya!”

The blond grinned. "I'm Odette! Nice to meet you, too!" New friend made! "So, are you a strict Pokemon Trainer?" she asked in a mock stern tone. "A coordinator aiming for beauty? Or a breeder trying to create a genetically perfect Pokemon?" She couldn't help but giggle at her own overly dramatic phrasing.

At least she was making friends. April would have to remember to get her a companion soon, one that would be with them all the time. Once she came up with her answer, she first chuckled at the drama level of the question. “Well, I used to want to be a trainer or a Breeder, but my mom said I have a better time putting together appeals, so I decided I wanted to be a Coordinator.” She said finally, looking at Elli to make sure she hadn’t drowned. As she mulled over her answer a bit further, she continued. “Actually, Elli and I are signed up for a contest pretty soon. I’m a little nervous about it, but I guess that’s a beginners cold feet hm? Oh, one sec!” she dove under the water momentarily and came up seconds later, feeling her shoulders. “Sorry, the shoulders were getting pretty warm. April chuckled and Odette was happy. It was nice to see other people smile. “Well, I used to want to be a trainer or a Breeder, but my mom said I have a better time putting together appeals, so I decided I wanted to be a Coordinator.” The blond's gold eyes widened and her smile broadened in a delighted gasp. She was a coordinator! This was great! She could help Odette with her appeals and Odette could comment on hers! Maybe she'd even get a friendly rival! Oh, this was going to be so fun! “Actually, Elli and I are signed up for a contest pretty soon. I’m a little nervous about it, but I guess that’s a beginners cold feet hm?" Beginner? Contest? Before Odette could ask any of the questions she wanted answered, April asked for a sec and she dived under the water. The girl blinked and stared at the spot where the brunette had been.

Meanwhile, Elli had grabbed onto Amber's floating tail and the Azurill began to paddle her little feet. She was swimming slower because of the added weight, but they were still swimming. Amber swam in a circle while the trainers continued their conversation.

April resurfaced and rubbed her shoulders. “Sorry, the shoulders were getting pretty warm. I don’t want to catch a sunburn so early you know?” Odette laughed lightly and nodded. You didn't want sunburn if you'd be wearing a dress that showed your shoulders! Not that the girl knew what kind of dress April would wear, if one at all.

“So Odette, what are you aiming to be?”

Tough question. "Well, right now I'm a coordinator, like you are!" she said cheerfully. "But I became one because I liked seeing the audience happy. I wanted to be a trainer and battle all the Gym Leaders because that's what my dad had done! Did you know I didn't really know what fun was because I was so serious about being a trainer?" Odette laughed loudly, because now she couldn't imagine a life without the fun she was currently having.

"So, when's the contest?" she asked, her eyes shining. "I wanna see you perform."
