 It was one of those perfectly average days on Sphalerite. The sun was shining, the earth was hot, and a a few puffs of smoke erupted from the volcano occasionally. It was a quiet day, with few Pokemon and people alike poking around. And if there were few around, then the area around the Bizarre Obelisk was practically deserted. One person was out, though. A short girl was picking her way through the rocks, a smile on her face and a bounce in her step. She had found something good today, and as bad as she wanted to keep it, she thought it would be better if someone else had it.
She set her prize down next to the Obelisk, flinching back a little when it lit up suddenly. She relaxed when the runes dimmed down, slowly fading from the blueish glow they had only moments before. Giggling, she turned and ran back to town, feeling excited and ready to take on the world. She knew that even on a slow day like this, there would be someone willing to come and look at the Obelisk, and when they did, they would get a nifty surprise.

Pamela hopped her way up the gravelly terrain, loving how the hot earth felt through the soles of her shoes, and glad that Andreas had let her wander off. She knew the Team Pergure grunts were probably keeping an eye on her regardless, but it was still fun to be on this little adventure. They had been in Sodalite looking at a vacation house to buy for themselves as a wedding present when she'd spotted the island off in the distance and begged him to take her - she had seen all the Obelisks in their adventures except for this one and he knew how much she liked fire Pokemon, maybe he could catch her a new one, and. and. and. Enough ands had finally gotten her what she wanted as it always did with him.
Once they got there he got an important call from the base and she'd asked him if she could go on up to the Obelisk before they had to leave. He'd been distracted and waved to her, nodding - his way of saying silently, Yes dear, whatever you want we'll get it. So now here she was, nearly there according to the map a local had drawn for her. After a few more steps she nearly fell face first into the crater it rested in but the scuttling of rocks into the hole knocked loose from her feet, as well as the rising ground temperature drew her attention to it. She nearly jumped with joy as she slid the rest of the way down, taking care not to get stains on her new "self designer" khaki outfit. She hurried up to it, placing her hand on it only briefly before it grew too hot to touch. She wandered around it looking at the other runes it had written on it and knocked an egg loose from a patch of dried grass and rubble at its base. She moved quickly, scooping it up and examining it. How sweet!
She wondered if it had been abandoned by its mother or if it would be back soon. She didn't want to wait around to find out - finders keepers! She stuffed it into her pack and clambered back up the crater walls - the Obelisk already forgotten. Pity too, since it had begun to glow again. She hurried back to Andreas, deciding to keep it a secret in case it hatched on the road. What a lovely surprise that would be!
