My feelings hurt but you know I overcome the pain
The mountain paths were treacherous, but Eri had learned them long ago alongside his sister, and found that hiking was an excellent way to clear the mind of disruptive thoughts. When one was forced to focus on the dangers of the path, they could also see the beauty in the rough and tumble mountain. Eri didn’t plan on walking all the way to the top, for he was hardly dressed for it in his clean white shirt and tight jeans, and that secondly, he knew that it was the mating season for several ice-types...
And traveling to the top might disrupt those very territorial pokemon.
He had a short walk in mind, just high enough that he could see the sun rising over the Bonsena region, maybe settling at one of the many over-looks that had been created by the government. With him he had both of his pokemon, though he had left them contained in their capsules. They were new to him... and he knew introducing them to his bad habits was never a good thing.
How was climbing a mountain to view the sunrise a bad habit? ... well, Eri didn’t climb mountains often, unless his sister was dragging him along in one of her walks, and he only really ambled up dangerous paths when he was feeling down. His mind had been troubling him, with the death of his mother.
So, he was going to walk it off.
Blow off his feelings with a midmorning walk, instead of really dealing with them.
He knew that wasn’t good for young pokemon to pick up on.
So, there he was, leaning over the railing that covered one of the many overlooks, finding himself in a particularly good view of the sun. He hardly noticed the creature that ambled up next to him, and flopped down to view the sunset as well. Eri was busy dwelling within his mind, pulling his glasses off to squint at the sun.
Life hadn’t been really fair to either his sister or himself.
If life had been fair, his mother could watch he and Emi work towards bringing the Lantus name back into the public eye, as the best breeders in the whole region.
Eri let out a little grumble of frustration, and found himself listening to something in return. “T-t-torchic!” Something squeaked loudly, and skittered away-a wing clipping his leg.
Eri jumped slightly, watching and orange and yellow creature dance towards an over flowing trashcan. He paused, trying to register what the pokemon was, before it came to him. He slowly approached the trashcan, and sat down. “Hey... little guy. Sorry about that. I’m just a little mad at the world today.”
He watched the fluffy creature peak out from behind the trashcan and slowly approached him. It sat down, and stared up at him with a pair of beady-coal colored eyes. Eri found himself smiling in despite of himself, and carefully patted the pokemon on the head.
It cooed slightly, tilting it’s head.
Conversation between himself and pokemon always felt so much easier than it was with humans, and the words simply flowed. “Your momma’s probably worried about you. Whatcha’ doing so far away from the caves?”
He knew that the caves were home to ghost-types, fire-types, and ground-types year round, and he recalled seeing a few Blaziken footprints in the dust that last time he and his sister had visited the caverns...
The torchic hopped up, and wandered towards the trashcan, and pulled something from the bottom of the basket. “Tor-torchic!” It returned with a twist of half-rotten berries, beaming happily. “Oh, you’re scavenging! I see, so your parents are nearby then. I haven’t eaten breakfast either.”
The little creature pulled at what looked to be a deflated oran berry, and held it up-trying to offering it to him. Eri laughed lightly, “Thank you, but I think I’d better wait. I like to eat with my pokemon back home. They’ll be troubled if I don’t eat with them.” There was a flicker of interest in the little creature’s eyes, and it seemed to tilt it’s head back and forth until it found the pokeballs at Eri’s side.
It poked at one with a talon, before retreating nervously and staring up at the breeder.
Eri chuckled, “Would you like to meet one of them?”
The torchic seemed to think on it, then took a battle stance. “Torrrrrr!” It chirped, and nodded. “I’m sure she’d enjoy a fight, if you’re up for it. ...” Eri fished at his side for a moment, before releasing Vittoria.
Wild Torchic has appeared! It wishes to battle!
The Makuhita posed for a moment, stretching as she looked around. She faced the Torchic with a gruff mumble, “Makhuuuhhh. Hee, hee! Maku!” The little Torchic skittered about for a moment, pacing back and forth before replying, “Torrrch!”
Tori smiled and bowed to the little creature.
She lightly punched Eri’s shoulder when she turned to face him, “Hita!” The creature made motions for him to stand up and back away, indicating the small brawl that was about to happen. He nodded, standing quickly and taking a few steps back.
“Alright! You’ve got the first move, little guy.”
The torchic trilled for a moment, before growling loudly at Vittoria. Tori covered her ears with a grumble, but didn’t let it bug her. “Focus Energy, Vittoria! Get ready to block anything that comes at you.”
The Makuhita nodded, closing her eyes and concentrating. Soon a light energy pulsed around her, and she readied her arms for blocking. The torchic danced on his toes, smiling brightly. He hopped up and brought his talons with him, scratching at Vittoria. The fighting-type blocked for the most part, her arms taking the brunt of the attack.
She eyed the Torchic carefully, and awaited her next command.
“Focus Energy, one more time, and get ready to strike!”
She obliged, the white pulsating energy around her increasing, her mind sharply aware of what was going on in the field. Taking a few steps back, she prepared to strike. She ran at the Torchic, and tackled him into the trashcan.
The little creature seemed a bit dazed when it sat up, letting out a rather pitiful cry of, “Torrrr...” Tori was ready to tackle the beast again, but a swift bark of, “Hold.” made her stop. She sighed and kicked at a fluttering piece of paper that had escaped the trashcan.
Eri was at the torchic’s side, looking him over, “You alright?”
The little creature leaned on his leg, twittering slightly. Eri patted him, “They don’t play so rough in your clutch, I guess. Makuhita are used to making challenges and fighting each other until the other faints... even when little.”
The torchic blinked for a moment, before hopping up. “Torrrr.” It said lowly, almost echoing across the field. Eri glanced in the direction the little torchic was growling, and found himself staring at a pair of Blaziken. He took his hand off the torchic’s puff, watching the two adults carefully.
The torchic snuggled at his side, watching the larger pokemon, again growling, “Torrrrr.”
As if it were asking if it could stay with Eri...
[I’m going to avoid throwing a pokeball for now... Sort of, let the parents be like, “No!” or “... you’re old enough to make your own choices, Fluffed-Fire-Face”. ... ffft. ]
And I'm stronger now for there's no fire without a flame. |

The Blaziken simply nodded in understanding to their young before disappearing back into the tall grasses, headed back to the cave.
