My feelings hurt but you know I overcome the pain Prehnite Town appeared to most as a sleepy town slowly accepting modernism and neatly resting upon the very edge of a mountain. Others knew it to be much more exciting than first glance offered: for it was full of afternoon bustle, a variety of young trainers, breeders, and coordinators calling the town home. A few simply knew that it housed a gym, and that was probably the only thing exciting about it.
To Eri Lantus, Prehnite Town was far more than the picture most people painted of it.
He tucked Alcee tighter in his arms, the curious fire-type tilting her head this way and that, watching all the new things go past. “Kleee.” She uttered in a low voice, eyes glittering at the sights before her. He murmured something nonsensical to her, and she stopped squirming for a moment.
Prehnite Town was home to the first gym, and the percentage of visitors going to challenge the gym to people that actually lived in the town... was a good two-for-one. Eri had been around town enough times to know exactly were trainers holed up preparing for the first gym. Those places were as follows: the pokemon center in town, the two bed-in-breakfast joints (if you could afford such), a large campground known as The Grove, and the outskirts of the forests that slowly tried to encroach upon Prehnite Town’s properties within the mountains.
Prehnite Town to Eri, was a large sack of scattered gold pieces.
It was a training grounds for low leveled pokemon.
He’d done the routine with Tori and Vince a dozen times, and it was a rather complicated routine. It was all about timing, speed, and a lot of patience. The job was to make a complete circle through the town and it’s outskirts within a morning and an afternoon.
Eri always started with The Grove, and managed to catch a lot of battles by hanging out near the grass with one of his pokemon out. He preferred that he was the challenged, rather the challenger, so that if he accidentally re-challenged anyone in the course of the day, it wouldn’t be too awkward. When his pokemon began to wear down, hanging on barely or not even at all to their hit-points, he would start towards the pokemon-center.
There was something amazing about challenges next to the pokemon center, setting up camp near one and asking for battles meant that he was always fresh for the next battle. Of course, as soon as the nurses start catching on and getting annoyed, it’s time to move on.
To the first bed-and-breakfast. Rella’s Rest is owned by the lovely, single, twenty-six year old Ella Bellinvia, whom if you act nicely towards, bring flowers to everyday, and don’t mention the mole on her nose-she won’t mind if you loiter outside her business... waiting to pounce on some unsuspecting trainer or coordinator.
Being only two beds within the bed-and-breakfast that aren’t Ella’s, eventually Eri moves on to the second bed-and-breakfast. He also stays as far away from the actual building as possible. There is no Ella Bellinvia within the second bed-and-breakfast, The Snoozing Munna, just an elderly couple whom seem to think Eri a very, very, unpleasant person.
Eri usually doesn’t stick around the shop too often, grabbing maybe one battle or less, if he isn’t chased away, and he ends up in the pokemon center, and then heads off into the forest.
Wild-pokemon grinding and occasional battles ensue, until twelve-o-clock, where the whole cycle starts again sans the bed-and-breakfast: campgrounds, pokemon center, forested wilds.
It was a hectic, but rewarding schedule. He’d done it when he was raising pokemon that weren’t his own for other people, demanding people. He’d run all over towns, trying to get a level two pikachu to level ten in a matter of hours...
With his own pokemon, he went a bit slower... development was important in his eyes, more so than levels, most days...
It was the dawn of a new day, and Eri had plans on introducing Alcee to the process. She was only level three, and such a baby that he’d really ... well, he’d waited longer than he probably should have to train her.
“Alright, baby cee’.” He half whispered as he set the precious creature down, “We hang out here for an hour or two, okay? We’re looking for people to fight. Gotta get your levels up, girl. Vittoria and Vincenzo are going to back you up. We’ll head to the pokemon center for a bit of a rest later...”
The torchic almost giggled at his delightful way of saying girl, blinking at him with her big eyes. She nodded slightly, shifting from one foot to the other. He leaned on a bit of metal fencing, glancing towards the sky, humming lightly.
Alcee danced slightly around his feet, a cheerful smile on her face. Finally, more than the one-two-punch-you’re-out matches she and Tori had been having. A real battle, with real trainers! She puffed out her chest, pointing her beak into the air.
Truly, this would be a great day.
“... here comes some kid.. do whatever you want, Alcee. Dance around, run through the grass, act as if we’re just waking up, getting ready to head out into the forest to train...” He half mumbled to her, watching someone slowly approach from the corner of his eyes...
And I'm stronger now for there's no fire without a flame. |

Prehite Town was just ahead and it seemed to be the only way he could actually get to the edge of this rocky environment and out to greener pastures as it were. Already the journey had taken quite a bit on his fatigue, Zack was young but he wasn't truly mentally prepared for this kind of travelling. Maybe he would get used to it with time.
Recently he had met a new Pokemon, an Aron. A Steel-type, whom he had recently become familiar with. Zack didn't want to just train his Pokemon, or leave them laying aside. He wanted to feel connected to each Pokemon in their own particular way, so that they would be practically synchronized with each other. In that way, they would trust him more and ultimately though would be more devastating as a Pokemon-Trainer team.
In truth, the young trainer didn't exactly know a hell of alot about the region and the types of Pokemon that roamed it. After all, he was a city boy from Johto and he was used to seeing things in a different way from what people here did. Each of his Pokemon were fairly balanced in terms of levels, with the sturdy little Aron only being one behind the rest. This meant that if he could find some wild pokemon to train against, or even other trainers if he plucked up the courage, he could think about taking on the Gym Leader!
His first badge would have been something to remember, as they all usually were. There were of course, many trainers thinking of doing the same thing and it was his opportunity to prove that he was better than the rest of them, to strive and march forward no matter what. He wasn't sure what to expect against other trainers but he was old enough to understand that to some people this wasn't a game, it was a career and a way of life.
Admittedly his stomach was coming to a bit of a rumble. He was hungry and he hadn't eaten properly since he had left home. He was a growing kid, of course he was going to be hungry at this time of day. Maybe if they went to eat first, then they could spend the rest of the day training. There was just enough money to eat and stay somewhere for the night before he got moving again. That sounded like a good plan.
In the not so far distance, Zack caught something from the corner of his eye. From the looks of things, it looked like a baby Torchic of sorts. What was that sort of Pokemon doing so far out by itself? While he wasn't planning to approach and scare it off in any way, he continued walking down the path casually as if he hadn't planned on bothering with it. The closer the distance got, he could see that there was someone accomanying the small creature.
Another trainer maybe? It was pretty hard to tell. Regardless, he remained on the path but approached the two, trying to make some sort of light conversation between them.
"Hey, that's a pretty cool Torchic you have." Zack said, bending his knees down to look at it. Maybe he could do with a fire-type to in order to freshen up the type differences in his team. He'd have to level up his current Pokemon however before he thought about adding more. While there were many he wanted to collect, he would have to give each the individual care they deserved.
"Are you a trainer, too?" The boy would ask, peering up at the obvious owner, who loomed over the chick Pokemon.
"I haven't seen many out this way, let alone any with a Torchic." It was true, Zack hadn't actually bumped into any trainers. Though he was certain that whenever two trainers crossed paths like this, they would have to battle. He was unsure how they actually went about this, so he just sort of remained quiet and hoped to get at least some sort of conversation going to avoid the subject. My feelings hurt but you know I overcome the pain
Alcee let out a little chirp of delight as the boy approached, cheerily greeting him with a small dance. He was young man, with big brown eyes and a mop of black hair, and it was nice to meet someone new~ She twittered at him as he began speaking, and smiled widely as she was called ‘pretty cool’.
She’d never been called ‘pretty’ and ‘cool’ in the same sentence! Though, Eri was very very generous with his statements towards her. Puffing up her chest, so that she could show off her feathers, she glanced back at the rather... calm Eri.
Eri was hanging still at the fencing, leaning on it and watching her and the strange boy, a sort of half smile on his face. He shrugged slightly at the comment, “She’s pretty new to this whole... thing.”
He pushed himself off the bit of fence he’d been resting against, nodding slightly to himself, “Just teaching her the ropes, getting her introduced to this... big frightening world.” Stretching, he leaned slightly and ruffled the feathers atop Alcee’s head.
Trying to gear the younger fellow’s strength, he noted as he straightened up, “... I’m a breeder, actually. Training pokemon is a big part of our deal though... You’re a trainer, I guess then?”
Generally, he always got to see the faces of his opponents twist slightly, in a sort of, ‘oh, you’re just a breeder?’ way after he mentioned his profession. Some people took the term breeder and sort of assumed that a breeder had absolutely no clue how to train pokemon. They just bred pokemon, hatched em’, and sold em’.
That might of been a few breeders, those that had so much stock and business they hardly had any time to train; but Eri wasn’t like that. He didn’t have any business at all yet, and there wouldn’t of been any until his and his sister’s pokemon were in the right conditions to do so...
Then there was grouping everything, and Eri was pretty sure he and his sister only had a single pair that /could/ actually breed. They were really going to have to work hard for this...
After his thoughts consumed him, he found himself breaking the silence.
“You much of a battler? I haven’t gotten to show Alcee here anything but a couple wild-pokemon battles. It’d be good for her to see a match against an actual human-trained pokemon... and be a part of it. I've got three pokemon on me. Alcee here, and another two.”
It was rather natural, the flow of his words, even the feel of them. He didn’t usually do nice or even mild-mannered. The mornings really, really messed with him sometimes. He was sure if a battle commenced, he’d get his usual flow back.
And I'm stronger now for there's no fire without a flame. |
